A Locals Top Picks of Things to Do

There are tons of things to do in Minneapolis and the surrounding areas, but here are our top picks:

Minnehaha Falls:   Great place to for a hike, a bike ride and grabbing a bite to eat!

Como Park Zoo and Conservatory:   Love Animals?  Hit up the zoo and stop through Como Town for some amusement rides for the littles!  More into flowers than animals?  Then head to the conservatory - great place to take a relaxing walk and see all of the gardens.

Explore one of our many lakes:

  • Lake Nokomis - https://www.minneapolisparks.org/activities__events/water_activities/beaches/lake_nokomis_main_beach/

Minnesota Zoo:  Our largest zoo in Minnesota is located 19 miles south of downtown Minneapolis.  The MN Zoo is a local favorite and features indoor and outdoor trails, an Amphitheater which hosts animal demonstrations during the day & live music events throughout the summer evenings, a splash pad, picnic areas..... oh and of course animals...many many animals!

Valley Fair:  Looking to ride some rollercoasters or take in a wild water ride? Or are you looking for a more of a poolside cabana setting?  Well, all can be found here!

Mall of America:

Movies & Music in the Parks: Grab your picnic blanket, camping chairs and some snacks and head to one of the many movies or music performances hosted at our parks throughout the summer!

Recommendations from a recent guest!

We love it when our guests have the opportunity to enjoy all of the good food our area has to offer!  Here is a part of a recent review which details their enjoyments while in town:

The entire family enjoyed several nearby restaurants. We ate at Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge, which is on the banks of the Mississippi River with a view of downtown Minneapolis. We also ate at Nelson Cheese and Deli, an unbelievable deli, which is in St. Paul but is on Como Avenue. Also on Como, just about a half mile from the house, we enjoyed Black Coffee and Waffle Bar, not to be missed if you like waffles, and The Blue Door Pub and their great burgers.

Nearby activities we enjoyed were Como Park in St. Paul, which was a great place for our granddaughter, and Mill Ruins Park in downtown Minneapolis. It’s a great place for walking along the river. The highways close to the property took us quickly back and forth to activities which were farther away.

I could spend a whole day exploring both of these areas, but they are also great if you only have an hour or two!

MPLSvr Top Local Eat & Drink Picks

We LOVE to eat out and there are so very many good places to choose from, but here are our top picks and why:

The Butcher Block - An Italian (Sicilian Chef to be exact) kitchen which was love at first bite!
Angie's Fav Dish:  Gnocchi w/Porcini sauce (usually comes con Ragu) - BEST GNOCCHI EVER!
Matt's Fav Dish:  Beef Short Ribs - add mushrooms
**We always get asparagus as an appetizer because it is just that good.
And great news!!  They are in the process of remodeling for added space.  The restaurant is still open during remodeling. Reservations recommended but not required.

Vic's - One of the best patios in the city with a great wine selection
Angie's Fav Dish:  Caeser Salad with Smoked Salmon & all of the wine.
Matt's Fav Dish: Pork Osso Buco & Justin Cabernet

Eli's East - Choose between the charming patio or the nicely dim lit cozy inside
Our Absolute Fav: Eli's Seared Filet Mignon Appetizer
What Else People Rave About:  The Egg Sandwich

Black Coffee and Waffle Bar - I was never a waffle fan until I came to this place and there is only one other waffle that can hold up to this one, and sorry folks, but it is in San Francisco.
Angie's Fav:  Fruit cup, the Naughty Waffle with a Berry's Tea
Nephew's Fav: Build your own Waffle & Hot Chocolate
Niece's Fav: S'more Waffle

Keys Cafe - There are a few Keys Cafe's around town and all of them have their own little flare.
Matt's Fav Location: Where it all began on Raymond Ave in St Paul - The omelettes and sticky rolls are the bomb!
Angie's Fav Location:  Keys Downtown in the Foshay Tower - The Bloody Mary's will deliciously cure any hangover & so will the Huevos Rancheros!  Another favorite - The Spinach & Egg Scramble.  And their pastry/pie selection is out of this world...all this talk and I think I need to head there now!

Sea Salt Eatery - This is more than a meal for sure.  It is an incredible experience to visit one of our best Minneapolis parks, walk the trails, rent a 4 person bicycle cart, enjoy the falls & of course enjoy one the of the best seafood eateries around.  Not a fan of seafood?  Then you should probably pack your own lunch & make a picnic of it!

Do you love a good burger?  Fortunately, so does the majority of Minneapolis!

Here are some of the top burger spots around town - according to us.  And the first 3 on the list are conveniently located within walking distance to our Como Neighborhood Vacation Rentals:

Sporty's Pub and Grill - Host to a variety of delicious burgers, this self proclaimed "original Dive Bar" is worth a stop not only for the burgers, but a variety of entertaining arcade games.  Come for the food and stay for the original 80's Packman table, Buck Hunter, pool, darts, or our personal favorite - Ski Ball!

Mannings Cafe - This place has been around forever and for good reason!  This is a neighorhood mainstay and is great for both large and small groups.

The Blue Door Pub - This is a new resident in the neighborhood and we couldn't be happier that they have arrived!  They are known for their Blucy Lucy - a take on the South Minneapolis created Juicy Lucy.  Not sure what that is?  Picture biting into a burger and discovering an oozy cheesey bit of heaven.

Matt's Bar - Home of the original Juicy Lucy and an experience unlike any other!

The Guthrie Sea Change - Their burger appetizer in the bar area is super delish & won't break the bank - unlike many of their formal dining room options!

The Nook - Travel east to St Paul and this is where you MUST go.  There is a bowling alley in the basement too!   Going during prime hours?  Bring something to entertain yourself as there is guaranteed to be a wait.

Ike's Food & Cocktails - The downtown location is the best location and if you go, you must get the Ike's Roadhouse Steak Burger with a side of Au Jus.
